Scuffletown Park is a lively pocket park located between bustling Strawberry Street and N. Stafford Avenue in the heart of Richmond’s Fan District, one of the nation’s largest intact neighborhoods of Italianate and Edwardian architecture. Long neglected, following the revival of the the Fan in the late 1990s, residents took a renewed interest in the space and eventually transformed the once overlooked parcel into, in its present state, a lush garden popular with VCU students and residents.
Today, the park provides an idyllic setting for neighbors and visitors to the Fan to socialize and relax. Ample benches and picnic tables are perched amidst well-maintained lawns and manicured gardens, making the park an ideal location for guests from one of the many nearby restaurants to dine al fresco. Many of the gardens are a blend of native flora and exotic flowers, providing a balanced landscape that provides visual interest throughout the year. Private plots tended by residents are located at the north end of the park, allowing gardeners to raise their own flowers and vegetables.
Despite all the work completed in the past decade, more is underway, and constant care is needed to ensure the continued beauty and cleanliness of the park. Please consider making a donation to Scuffletown Park, one of Richmond’s true neighborhood parks.
