Humphrey Calder Community Garden

Late-summer dahlias at Humphrey Calder Community Garden.

Located at the far west of the Museum District along Thompson Street at the intersection of Kensington Avenue, Humphrey Calder Community Garden is an active garden comprised of well-tended individual plots. An integral neighborhood component adding green space in the Museum District, among the private plots the garden hosts a berry patch and thriving beehive, and is part of a beautiful stretch of public space including Humphrey Calder Playground (with popular soccer fields and tennis courts), Humphrey Calder Community Center, and Station No. 18 of the Richmond Fire Department.

Dahlias thrive in the well-tended beds of Humphrey Calder Community Garden.

Flowers cultivated in the garden support a wide range of indigenous pollinators, and rabbits reside in the park space surrounding the garden – a fun sight in an otherwise urban residential area. While all beds are currently leased, if you are interested in renting space at Humphrey Calder Community Garden please reach out to us to be added to the wait list! The garden also hosts volunteer days for work on communal spaces and occasionally workshops for better gardening practices.
